Drivers on Marathon speed up to 40mph going from Mass Ave to Broadway. The potholes have slowed them up a little — but once the road is resurfaced, they can go even faster.
High speeds on Marathon are dangerous. We have already had one terrible accident this year at Broadway and Marathon. Pedestrians and cyclists say they’ve had near misses.
How You Can Help
Arlington has a specific form to use for road safety requests. If you aren’t sure what to write, copy and paste this:
Drivers regularly speed 40 miles per hour down Marathon Street. Once it is repaved, they will go even faster. This is dangerous for children, for cyclists, for pedestrians, and for other drivers.
There has already been one bad accident this year. Marathon needs traffic calming measures now, before there is a fatal accident. Please add:
- Raised crosswalks at Mass Ave, Waldo, and Broadway
- Speed humps on the approach to Waldo and Broadway
- Stop signs at Marathon and Waldo
- Curb extensions at crosswalks
- A “25 mph” speed limit sign with radar that shows how fast drivers are going
Please help us keep Arlingtonians safe! Add traffic calming measures to Marathon now!
The form is at: https://www.arlingtonma.gov/town-governance/boards-and-committees/select-board/roadway-safety-request-form
